I've never been a beach person - nor much of a water person for that matter - there are only lakes and rivers in the land-locked Prairies scoured out of the ground by the glacial action of the last ice age and the meltwaters of the Rocky Mountains .

But, I think I could be...

A trip to Oxnard again to see the Mullin Automotive Museum and its collection of super-rare French and Italian automobiles from the Art Deco 1920s and 30s: Bugattis, Delahayes, and Voisins among others. Then to a downtown Oxnard street show hosted by the Murphy Auto Museum.

First the Mullin, located in a nondescript industrial park, and only open two Saturdays a month. Mr. Mullin made his fortune selling insurance and was smitten with 1930s French cars at his first sighting of a Delahaye . He went on to collect, restore, and even race some of these now-rare automobiles. And these cars aren't left to sit and be dusted weekly - Mr. Mullin is known to take them out and put them on the road, as they were meant to be.

The Mullin Automotive Museum is a spectacular collection of cars and museum experience, many millions of dollars worth of rare vehicles you'll not likely see anywhere else. All for 12 bucks!!! And consider: all those swoopeing and sweeping curves were hammered and stretched and shrunk out of sheets of metal - no fiberglass - in steel and aluminum and evne magnesium. There's as much art in the cars' fabrication as in their designs.

Equally classy is the Mullin's website, providing background and history for each of the cars in the collection, full of details I won't have the time to recreate here, so go there!

Next we headed to a much more informal affair, the Murphy Auto Museum. street show featured more-common and mostly American cars, but beautiful nonetheless. Lots of car-guy dedication to restorations and modifications along a few blocks of sunny downtown Oxnard.
