Low Pressure System Eddies

I follow the weather a lot, using my own weather page. One link I check on at least daily is the GOES North America Water Vapor satellite image.

One evening last summer I noticed this interesting low pressure system centred over northwest Nevada, with several eddies counter-clockwise from western Montana to off the coast of northern California.

Each eddy is itself a local low pressure area, demonstrating fractal behaviour.
