I've been watching NASCAR for a few years now, after many years watching Formula 1. Not actually watching, more like having it on to accompany whatever I'm doing - on TV you miss the speed and sounds of a real race. I once had a taste of stock-car racing when I volunteered at the Edmonton Indy, and thought the thunderous sound of a V-8 pushrod engine at 9500 RPM was AMAZING.

So I'm planning to see a race - in Bristol, Tennessee ...

For Canadians, TSN is televising the IRWIN TOOLS Night Race at Bristol on Saturday August 25 5-930 pm MDT (or longer). Tune in for a while mid-race to at least see how short-track racing looks under lights with 160,000 spectators. I'll try to wave!

Stuff Happened - Details Coming

I took just under a Gig of photos, with my smartphone and camera interchangeably. So I need some work on resolving all that. Then there's writing and layout. Post-production, as it were. And I have to get back to work again too.

You may wonder "Well... How was it???"

The trip was... A TRIP! For most of us I think, throwing yourself into a place you've never been, into a crush of people you've never been around or with would be most noteworthy. Familiar, because it's North America, but foreign, because it's on the other side of the continent. Right on the edge of the other side of the continent. And this was no guided bus tour, though I had the hospitality large and small of my hosts and pretty much everyone I had contact with along the way.

I don't know what favourable superlatives to use - there are lots - pick one you'd use and that's it for me! They'll come out in the entries I make.

NOTE: Everything since I left will likely be subject to additions and edits until I consider things done and make a final post. There will be typos, and errors, and I'll catch them in a second pass through. For now, I'm just replaying the two weeks in my head, collecting my pictures together, and getting it all through my fingers to your eyes. Read what's here, and come back in a week or a a month (max) to see what's filled in.

OK, off to it...
