I use a lot of links, and only thumbnail images open in a separate window. Middle-click or right-click a link to open it in a new window or tab.

I've never been a beach person - nor much of a water person for that matter - there are only lakes and rivers in the land-locked Prairies scoured out of the ground by the glacial action of the last ice age and the meltwaters of the Rocky Mountains .

But, I think I could be...

We HAD to tour Pigeon Forge some more. TFS found the place to be hilarious. HILARIOUS! I only took one picture, which I can't show to maintain a surprise for one of my readers, but if you follow the link you'll see from the attractions listed that the place is a wonderland of mountain resort delight.

Following a hearty pancake breakfast, we set off through the Great Smoky Mountains to see some fall colours. We're a bit early for lots of colour, but there's enough to be interested.

From a rest stop just inside the North Carolina border.

Sated with inland wonders, we headed eastward for the beach along I-74 , which is sort of an Interstate patched together from a bunch of state highway pieces. After draaaaggggiiiinnnggg through the south end of Charlotte, NC for what seemed like forever, we finally got up to some highway speed and finally got there to greet the sea again.

4522.5 km (2713.5 mi) later, back at the beach.

At the south end of the island we're on, there's a ferry going to the mainland, to a place called Southport, NC . So we went there for lunch and to shop the trinket stores. Then we scooted home to avoid a large thunderstorm.

What? You think we zoom around somewhere new every day? No, today was some errands, and then a stop at the Ocean Grill and Tiki Bar. I try a beer I've never had at every place we stop, but today seemed to call for an old favourite: Guinness. Alcoholism is so wasted on the young. :)
