I use a lot of links, and only thumbnail images open in a separate window. Middle-click or right-click a link to open it in a new window or tab.

I've never been a beach person - nor much of a water person for that matter - there are only lakes and rivers in the land-locked Prairies scoured out of the ground by the glacial action of the last ice age and the meltwaters of the Rocky Mountains .

But, I think I could be...

2012.12.04 Morning Sunrise

Comment

After our little trip to Cedar Island, NC I was pretty tired, even passing out during Monday Night Football (which I've done pretty consistently it seems). So I was up early enough to see one of the few sunrises I've seen here, and since it was a warm and mostly-cloudless morning I took pictures of the sunrise, some of which I'll put here.

2012.12.04 To Jerome's in Shallotte

Such a nice day. What's a guy with a convertible to do? Why, take the Southport ferry then drive to Jerome's Steak & Seafood in Shallotte, NC !

From the ferry one can see the cranes of the Military Ocean Terminal, Sunny Point , the largest military terminal in the world. It is a transfer point for all the weapons, ammunition, explosives, and military equipment for the US Army. Lots of KABOOM! over there. See also here for more details.

The large docked ship is offloading citric acid used to make sugar from sugarbeets for the Archer Daniels Midland company. It's been there for a few days. The (Saudi Arabian) container ship we passed is in the distance.

After stuffing ourselves at Jerome's we stopped in at Ocean Isle Beach which required crossing a crazy-huge bridge.
