I've never been a beach person - nor much of a water person for that matter - there are only lakes and rivers in the land-locked Prairies scoured out of the ground by the glacial action of the last ice age and the meltwaters of the Rocky Mountains .

After our little trip to Cedar Island, NC I was pretty tired, even passing out during Monday Night Football (which I've done pretty consistently it seems). So I was up early enough to see one of the few sunrises I've seen here, and since it was a warm and mostly-cloudless morning I took pictures of the sunrise, some of which I'll put here.

Such a nice day. What's a guy with a convertible to do? Why, take the Southport ferry then drive to Jerome's Steak & Seafood in Shallotte, NC !

From the ferry one can see the cranes of the Military Ocean Terminal, Sunny Point , the largest military terminal in the world. It is a transfer point for all the weapons, ammunition, explosives, and military equipment for the US Army. Lots of KABOOM! over there. See also here for more details. |

The large docked ship is offloading citric acid used to make sugar from sugarbeets for the Archer Daniels Midland company. It's been there for a few days. The (Saudi Arabian) container ship we passed is in the distance. |

After stuffing ourselves at Jerome's we stopped in at Ocean Isle Beach which required crossing a crazy-huge bridge. |
