I've never been a beach person - nor much of a water person for that matter - there are only lakes and rivers in the land-locked Prairies scoured out of the ground by the glacial action of the last ice age and the meltwaters of the Rocky Mountains .
But, I think I could be... Place name links like Carolina Beach, NC go to Wikipedia. Place name links like Carolina Beach use the local tourism or government website.

A Capitol Idea - Day 1 |
Comment
|
Washington has a lot to see. Day 1 we spent walking the National Mall from one end to the other and then back, with a stop in the National Gallery of Art . The day was dull and grey, though not cold.

On either side of the mall there are museums and art galleries and other monuments. We blew through the National Gallery of Art in about an hour, a very unreasonable pace for the sizable collection that is there. I took a stupid number of pictures and will put them into a separate section from our walk through the mall. Just walking the mall and looking at what's there from outdoors is a full-day affair but we really pushed the pace. Actually, I pushed the pace and TFS was a total trooper in following me. |

The White House had a Christmas tree up, surrounded by model trains and other Christmas trees for each of the 50 states. Barack and Michele were nowhere to be seen, but that's not very surprising - we hadn't called ahead. In a field behind the tree was a large menorrah and people celebrating Hanukkah. |

One last pass by the Capitol buildingat dusk, with its tree lit.
What you can't see is the stage erected for the Inauguration ceremony, and all the security fencing. | |
The National Gallery of Art
More art than I've ever seen in one place at one time. The Gallery is a series of interlinked rooms representing different periods or styles of art. I took a ton of pictures, but photographing classic art is like photographing the ocean: you just have to be there.
