Since last winter went so swimmingly, let's try it again! TFS has very graciously opened her home in the west San Fernando Valley to me again. This time her daughter AS (and dog and cat) are there too. Two women + two dogs + two cats = not my usual solitary winter again. Huzzah!

Been here a couple days, but as luck would have it my router and switch went brain-dead on the weekend and it wasn't until yesterday that PM could give them a kick so I could reach up home to my machines. The Internet is a wonderful thing, when all the wires are connected.

There's heat here! Not even noon, and it's 30°C. And I completely forgot to bring shorts and sandals. :( Stores aren't much help - they're all converted over to winter wear, and Christmas stuff. One thing that doesn't change is the amount of time the sun spends shining down. By 5pm it gets dark and being in the mostly-cloudless desert conditions of the San Fernando Valley whatever daytime heat there is heads straight up into the ether and people put coats on. Funny how 10°C feels cold in darkness after a scorching day.

Today seems to be a good one for exercising my golf swing at the Van Nuys Golf Course driving range. TFS has been taking lessons so I need to keep sharp!

WattsTowers is an iconic piece of folk art in the Watts neighbourhood of central Los Angeles, an area known more for its race-relations problems than anything else.

The Towers have been used on a number of LP and CD covers, one pointed out to me by my friend MA for an eponymous release by jazz trumpet musician Don Cherry .

A few other examples can be found on the Night of the Living Vinyl blog and Rate Your Music.
