I've never been a beach person - nor much of a water person for that matter - there are only lakes and rivers in the land-locked Prairies scoured out of the ground by the glacial action of the last ice age and the meltwaters of the Rocky Mountains .

But, I think I could be...

2013.01.10 The Late Late Show Taping

Today we went to tapings of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson to be aired on January 10 and 11 (or 11 and 12 if you want to be exacting). We sat stage-right, about mid-level deep, 2 of 161 audience members. Not bad seats, since cameras weren't in the way. An interesting experience to see how small the studio is and how the show is shot. There's a lot of waiting in line just to get in, a walk through a security scanner that the guards mostly ignore, more waiting until everyone is processed, then more waiting as the warm-up comedian fluffs the crowd. Once it starts (hours after we first got in line along Fairfax Avenue outside the CBS Television City studio) the show proceeds pretty smoothly in order of its run-time.

After yesterday's show taping TFS had an email from one of the producers saying we'd have priority access to see taping of a number of sketches used for Ferguson's post-Super Bowl show. So, the weather being a bit too chilly to do much cruising around, we went to that too. Loooots of waiting, for about an hour and a half of taping, not really worth it, but I did get a softball-style t-shirt from one of the 2 warm-up comedians who tried their best to keep us engaged and entertained while we waited for something to happen.

I have been rather derelict in back-filling my blog with our journey across America. That ought to change soon before I abandon it completely. Truth is, I've been lazy about it, rather uninspired, and busy cleaning up TFS's back yard from a year of absence during which time nature took over and her rose bushes and Morning Glory vines made the place into something akin to what I envision Miss Havesham's yard looked like in Dickens' book Great Expectations . Amazing what a lack of the killing weather of a northen winter will let plants get up to. So by day we've been hacking and slashing and yanking away, and by night I haven't given a damn. Or if the weather is good we've been finding places to go with the Cabrio's top down. Either way I have a bazillion (figuratively speaking) pics waiting to be processed and posted with some kind of narrative about our great journey from coast to coast.

More beach? Sure - today we head further south to Manhattan Beach, CA . Manhattan Beach is the most expensive city to live in on the California coast popular with pro athletes and entertainment industry execs. But we don't see any of them. It's much more buttoned-down than Venice Beach and less interesting because of that. On the beach pier there's a fine little aquarium that I was sure I took pictures of, but have no record of them, so you'll have to be satisfied with a panorama view from the start of the pier.
