I've never been a beach person - nor much of a water person for that matter - there are only lakes and rivers in the land-locked Prairies scoured out of the ground by the glacial action of the last ice age and the meltwaters of the Rocky Mountains .
But, I think I could be... Place name links like Carolina Beach, NC go to Wikipedia. Place name links like Carolina Beach use the local tourism or government website.

It's a pretty hot day in the value. 80-something. What better place to go than the desert where it's hotter? So we're off to Calico Ghost Town, to see some California mining history. |

Calico Ghost Town is more theme park than museum, good for an afternoon once a year maybe. Definitely not in the summer though - this place gets HOT.    | |

The desert has its own beauty, and on the other side of the San Gabriel mountains there's lots of it. Unfortunately it's been a dry winter so there's not a lot of spring greenery or flowering yet, what there is of it.
I'll be through these parts again on the way home. |
